Ice Dance Class

February 28 @ 6:45 pm - 7:45 pm

This class is for skaters who are comfortable gliding on forward inside and outside edges, and are working on forward/backward crossovers and backward one-foot glides. Skaters taking this class will be at, or above, our Novice 1 level class.

Ice dance is a graceful, captivating activity that marries artistic expression with excellent cardiovascular exercise, strength training, and flexibility. Ice dance is an engaging pursuit in itself; practising ice dance also provides significant benefits for general/free skating. As well as the traditional partnered ice dance, solo ice dance is now a recognised and respected international discipline, and finding a partner is no longer a limiting factor in the ability to enjoy the sport.

This class will introduce skaters to the basic principles of ice dancing, including posture, and understanding the rhythm of the music, and applying these to a simple combination of steps involving edges and basic turns. Depending on the class participants, skaters will learn a number of partner holds, proximity while skating, and synchronising movements with their partner.
This class will emphasise building confidence, allowing participants to experience the joy of expressing themselves through movement on the ice, and fostering a love for ice dancing.
Attendees of this class will have free entry to the club figure skating session being held from 5.45pm to 6.45pm.
